He Can Breathe!!

Jack has always had a hard time breathing through his nose and was a prominent mouth breather. We could tell that his tonsils were large and decided to take him to see an ENT to see if she thought he would benefit from a tonsillectomy. It was obvious to her once she entered the room that his tonsils and adenoids needed to come out. We scheduled the surgery for Tues the 16th and here we are three days later and he is doing amazing!

We found out the day before the surgery that he was the oldest kid scheduled for surgery that day and he was going to be last! How in the world are you supposed to keep a 4 year old from eating and drinking all day? We arrived at the hospital at 1:00pm tired and hungry. Luckily for us Jack didn't complain one bit about not being able to eat or drink anything. We kept him busy with the fish tank in the waiting room and our wonderful DVD player.

Look how cute he is just sitting and waiting with his hands in his pockets.

He was finally called back to the pre-op room around 2:00 where we waited...

...and waited some more.

He did so good! There was a TV in the room which kept him occupied and distracted from the things to come.
3:00 came and it was finally his turn! When it came time for them to take him back into surgery he struggled. He was tired and hungry and scared. All he wanted was Ryan to be by his side. It was really hard to see them take him away while he was crying for us and curled up in a ball on the bed - yes I teared up watching them take him away when he was so scared.
The surgery went well. His tonsils were huge and touching in the middle and his adenoids were even bigger. The Dr struggled a little getting them out because they were starting to grow into his nose!

We were finally able to see him once he woke up in the recovery room. I was afraid he was going to wake up screaming and crying but he was so good. He was still really sleepy and fell back to sleep right away. Ryan and I couldn't believe how quiet he was when he was asleep. He was breathing through his nose! His mouth was closed and he was breathing through his nose! We have never seen him do that.
Once he woke up he was in pretty good spirits. He even gave us a few smiles.

We hung out at the hospital until about 7:00 and then we were finally on our way home.
He has done SO much better than we expected. He spends a lot of time just hanging out watching movies and playing the wii. Now if we can get him to eat that would be great!
